Description
What is Vitamin D3?
Vitamin D plays a critical role in calcium absorption, muscle function, immune support, and the maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. It’s often referred to as the “sunshine vitamin,” is synthesized when skin is exposed to sunlight, however research shows that your body's capacity to effectively make vitamin D falls by more than 50% between the ages of 20 and 80.
In the UK and Ireland, sunlight is not strong enough to produce adequate vitamin D between October and March, and modern indoor lifestyles further contribute to widespread insufficient levels, even during summer months.
The HSE advises 15 micrograms minimum of vitamin D daily from Halloween (31st October) to St Patricks Day (17th March) to maintain optimal health. This recommendation is especially important for those at increased risk of low levels, for example you are not often outdoors, over 65 or pregnant. For children aged between 5 and 12 in Ireland, the HSE recommends 10 micrograms daily.
Why is ours better?
It contains exclusively vitamin D3, which is the form of vitamin D produced naturally in the body in response to sunlight. Research shows that optimum intake levels of vitamin D are now far higher than originally thought, so we've included 25µg (1,000iu) of natural source vitamin D3 into each daily tablet.
Who is this for?
Vitamin D3 25µg is ideal for those who don't consume enough dietary sources of vitamin D or are not getting sufficient exposure to sunlight. Public Health England recommends that everyone should consider taking a vitamin D supplement in winter and that people at greater risk of low levels should do so all year round.
